911r - hmm

For the first time ever, considering a car as an investment - as stats goes surely this car is already a 911 classic, also being the first R.

500bhp gt3 engine, manual box and 1300kgs.

I'd say it's as certain as death and taxes. If I could afford one I would be on it! (Assuming they've not already sold out...)

I'm pretty sure they're already gone or sold on invitational basis.

But just wondering whether autoinvesting is probably better than property investing right now

Porsche Leicester are only having 2 and my boss is having one of those, definitely a good investment :driving:

I'd thought I'd seen you had to be a 918 owner to be invited

He hasn't got a 918, he has a Mecan Turbo, a ' Sharapova' Boxster Spyder, which he collected today and has had a number of 911's, 3 of which he's kept, so a long standing customer, I don't know what the criteria was tbh

looked over this in detail with the evo video and what a car.... what a car... that is my dream car, special engine, special car, special everything... magnum roof !!!! YESSSSS

Honestly, if I had to have one car for the rest of my driving days... It'd probably be this. The recipe is just perfect imo... (well, no 991 Porsche will be perfect without the hydraulic steering and Mezger engine but I'll save that rant for another time )

The only change I'd make is to get rid of the daft stripes. Then it'd be pretty much my perfect car. It reminds me of how badly I want a 911...

yup yup yup.... but this is going to be super exclusive, super rare and very cherry picked owners.. basically porsche will be writing the owner a cheque because this will be easily be doubling its RRP.

its perfect, the stripes that hark back to a gone era of the R moniker, the uncluttered body with no wings etc, the brown interior with the old school middle sections, the green dials!! yes!! just like the old cars, the bespoke gearbox, the RS 500hp engine, This for me, is more want than anything currently on sale and buyable.. This is the drivers car that i dream of, fun at the track and amazing on the road, in every arena this car will be just "right".

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate what Porsche have done - as you say this is the ultimate modern Porsche, and something you, I and many many others will lust after as the perfect spec for the 'real driver'...

However, I do think the historic stuff is a little contrived, and Porsche are annoyingly good at making an amazing amazing car and then making it totally unattainable to mere mortals due to price and production numbers. Which from a business model makes sense as it keeps demand high and means people will pay the prices for them, BUT it means people buy them as investments rather than to enjoy them in the way they were intended.... which upsets me.

SO what I'm really saying is, does anyone fancy buying me one so I can daily a 911R ?

Ed tbh totally agree....

just build the fucking things..... this limited number bollox is a joke imo, the cayman again awesome car but it's a friggin cayman build em and sell em!! no limited numbers and stop the car flippers making a small fortune and making these car unobtainable for the mere mortal.... i totally get what your saying i cant help but just dream about this car!

^ well when you've worked out a business model for getting one, let me know

autoinvesting is a good idea as long as property investing is a good idea :) People 'invest' in cars when they have the cash, if property market is failing (because stockmarket is failing), then people wont be buying cars anymore... thus all these £200k+ 'classic' porsches will be back to normal prices again.

WRT 911 R - looks like a Donald Trump car - they're making exactly what the customer whats to see/hear/buy into. Except in the car world - that's great. I bet its 130K+, if i had the cash.....

If you were really cynical you could see this as Porsche using up their parts bins to up sell their left over manual boxes etc in order to make a lot of money before they retool for new engines/gboxes/chassis

But I'd like to see it as Porsche connecting with their customer base

It's an entirely new manual transmission isn't it?

so they say.

Porsche need a new Ltd Ed model every few months to keep the momentum going - they're on a good run!

It's a 'bespoke 6spd' which is pr speak for re-ratio'd old box. I don't see them spending money developing a whole new gearbox for a limited run car, else they would have created a bespoke 7spd manual box which would have made more sense.

Unless maybe future direction is going back to 6spd.
