8J wheels on Coupe rear

I'm looking for new alloys for winter tyres. I quite like the M3 reps on Ebay and see you can get them in 8 and 8.5 widths. I'd like to stick with 225/40 R18 tyres (the 255/35s are pretty scarce and also bloody expensive). I know the 225s are a better fit on the 8J rim.

Can anyone let me know if the 8J rim and 225 tyres will look ok on the Coupe rears?

Surely someone on here must know if a front 18'' 108 or MV2 wheel will fit and look ok on the rear (doesn't have to be coupe either). I'd take one of mine off but I don't have a spare to keep the car up! Cheers
 
IIRC it should fit, but the best way to check is via a wheel offset calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp

You need to know the wheel width and offset (ET) for both wheels, but you should then be able to compare where it'll sit within the wheelarch.
 
.... and this site lists all the available BMW wheels Alloy Wheels Direct so you can play around with the offset calculator to see how any wheel will fit. :thumbsup:

That's what I did and then looked around eBay until one of my chosen wheel types came up. I ended up with some type 32s that have the same offset as 108s - and as a bonus they came with winter tyres already.

There's no real short cut to checking which type of wheel will fit and then looking around for those wheels or seeing some wheels advertised and checking if they will fit.

Thanks all - that is helpful. The standard MV2 wheel offset for the 8J fronts is 47 and the 8.5J rears is 50.

1010 tyres says putting the fronts on the rear would leave 9mm more inner clearance so am I right in thinking a 10mm spacer would be needed?

Surely less inner clearance would need a spacer to move the wheel outwards. With more clearance you should be fine.

I've just checked that (current 8.5" ET50, new 8.0" ET47) and as you/Half Colin say, 9mm MORE inner clearance. Basically means the inside edge of the wheel/tyre will be further OUT from the car, so no need for spacer. It also says the new wheel (8.0") will be 3mm further IN than the 8.5" so again that's ideal.
 
Sorry to bump up - can anyone let me know if these will fit ok? Just looking for cheapy winter wheels.
