7,500 miles later

Well, since picking up my Z4M earlier in the year with a tender 7,500 miles I've now crossed the 15,000 mile mark.

Since April, I've never not smiled when getting into the car for any journey, even my dull 60mile round trip along the M4 which accounts for the mileage increase. The engine is pretty much having an easy life most of its time at 3,00rom (once warmed up) and I'm getting 27.9mpg measured with fuelly. Office will move to only 10 miles away at the end if next year, so won't rack the mileage up for much longer - for those of you thinking putting that many miles on a low miler is madness

Having had the same E86 twice, and my wife having a 2.5si, I can safely say the small tweaks made to the car, engine aside are certainly greater than the sum of its parts. Something about all of the unique noises the M makes is just fantastic, if scary listening out for expensive ones. Opening up the throttle is just something I will never get bored of, and am now far more confident to give it the beans.

A few well natured souls here helped to remove my CDV, install and intravee and a Dashcam. You know who you are & thanks again for your time and efforts in making it the best car I've owned so far.

I still prefer the look of my E86 and sometimes wish I had purchased the MC as never look back at this in the same way after parking as I did with the coupe. That said, a dry day & my mind changes completely, perfect for unwinding after a long day in the office & de-stress.

I opt out of a company car, so this will be paid off in 18 months time 'by the company', and already know this will be kept as a last of breed as a weekend car. Need to work out how to get a shed / contraptions to keep all the garden stuff & BBQs in though as no room for a car currently. Even my wife wants me to keep this one, and loves to drive it.

Even though I'm over a year out I'm still struggling with what to become the daily drive. Economising and having a normal runabout vs a V8 M3, but then the weekend car has less power than the daily! Something with 4 seats / a slightly larger boot would be handy every now and again, given our most practical car is the non-M given the extra bit of boot space due to the battery being under the floor.

Anyway, getting off my own topic. Amazing few months & so glad I made the choice to adopt the M tax, the best fun I've had driving so far & long may it continue, getting some slightly more exiting roads than the M4 under its belt!

Great right up. :thumbsup: They are indeed very spacial cars. I have the same trouble with MrsG nicking mine. Fortunatley she won't reverse it out of the Garage for fear of scratches. :wink:

I've just about done 7.5k in mine, only taken me 4 years :lol:

Glad you still enjoying it. Guess you'll have about 30k on it before consigned to weekend fun.

I'll have 48k on mine soon, which means I'll have done as many miles in 18 months (24k) as PVR did in it over 7 years :lol:

I, like you, have loved every mile despite many of them being commuter miles. Make a promise to yourself that you'll get on some decent runs next year though - it'll only cement your bond with the car even more :driving:
 
mines on 12,400 and something.... son will finally sitting in that passgener seat next season and i expect to see that mileage jump up for once, as ill be touring the car round for totally different reasons, like a picnic somewhere far with my son :-) a trip down to the sandbanks for the weekend etc.

all parts for shim removal are in-bound too, so if the mild weather continues ill get some more use out of it this year too like id planned to!
 
Yes, it will be about 30k on the clock when it becomes garaged....assuming I can keep myself out of it & buy something else.

Aiming to get one some runs next year for certain, think Peppermint's Berkshire & North Hampshire run might have been a little too quick as one of my first forum meets - maybe a more sedate one next time from this forum.

19mpg, you must be in traffic / hoooning it the whole time. This is inclusive of the weekend hoons and my daily commute, 3,100 revs for 25 miles of the M4 without traffic doesn't really give much excitement. I'm in the office before 7.30 and don't leave until 6.30 earliest, so rarely see any traffic. The 27.9 is over 1134 litres and £1,400 of fuel....ouch didnt enjoy typing that - not from the cash perspective as it is money well spent, mainly from how much of my life is wasted at a petrol station.

I've had my M since July. I've averaged about 17 mpg in all those months. a full tank of petrol costs me on average 30 USD and lasts me about 5 days. 112 days since I bought it, it's about 672 USD in only about 3 and a half months. So about 2180 USD a year! whoa!
Thanks mj2k for making me think about how much I spend on petrol every year :P
You guys have a gas guzzler tax right? How much is that? :o
 
1 US Mpg is 0.8326742 UK Mpg though so it isn't quite as bad as it seems. Done 6k miles or so in mine so far this year, average about 26mpg but very rarely in stop start or motorway traffic

That's still only 22.8 UK Mpg Vs US 19 Mpg - But just think of the price of his fuel :cry:

He probably thinks his fuel is expensive these days too.
 
Actually petrol is pretty inexpensive right now.
Pay about 2.2 USD per Gallon.
When I owned my Z3, I was paying about 3.5 per gallon, that's when it hurt, but then again, I used to get 22mpg in my Z3 so it was a tad better lol

Noticed some lacquer overspray on the bonnet this evening from when it had the bumper done. Miffed but know it's an easy fix.

Still not a fan of 1st to 2nd, especially on a cold engine. Weird once warmed fully that I can shift more smoothly at 7k than at 3k :oops:

The interior ticking noise over bumps returned today, somewhere from the pax side of the car / dash, but wife cannot hear it ever. Will get some lube spray on all trim panels again to remove....trouble is, as I do them all at the same time I never know exactly which application solved it :headbang:

Wife also wants her Z polishing....the trouble with buying a machine polisher!
 
I have a slight door button/pin rattle - you lock the doors automatically at 10 mph, it rattles - a bit, particularly over certain roads (got one close to me, sadly). Unlocking the doors via the central switch sorts it out but I'd prefer locked doors. I've heard that a wrap of felt works but need to take the door card off, which I haven't got round to yet. Could be a similar thing?

Hoped so, but alas not; mine is further forwards - perhaps where upper door meets lower dash & door.

All I know at the moment is that it is out of reach whilst driving
