6000'ish miles - ECU remap?

i recently rolled over 6000 miles in the M and to my suppress my fuel economy has really improved! at first i thought it was because i'd switched to shell (usualy use sainsburys)... i've just ran 2 tanks of sainsburys back though and fuel economy is the same.. pre 6000 miles i was getting around 25mpg on my daily 70 mile communte, now i'm getting around 28mpg!!! i'm not complaining ;)

anyhoo, that got me thinking what happened at 6000 miles, why that figure? then i thought thats 10,000km in german money.... so does anyone know if the ECU dynamically changes the MAP at 10k? theory would make sense, run a richer running in map when the engine is new and tight, then lean it off after a while...

LOL or is it all in my head? :tumbleweed:

WUT? There is no reason for the ECU to remap after X amount of miles. It's more likely that you've calmed down since your purchase and your driving habits have changed. :D

I disagree, my mate works for the company that does the prodrive ECU's and he says subarus switch tables all the time depending on fuel and recons its perfectly feasible for it to change based on milage....

my driving habits definitely haven't changed, i've been paranoid about fuel consumption since day one LOL

Yes the ECU would change based on variables that directly affect it as you stated. But what affect would mileage have in relationship to the ECU? I don't think there's much unless it's considering wear items such as spark plugs and O2 sensors. To which point, it should change dramatically where you'd notice. The changes that occur behind the scenes should be to maintain a stable enviroment for the ECU to operate. So I still don't think you'd see a change like that because the ECU changed.

I think you're just getting a little lighter on the pedals. Has your average KPH/MPH changed as well with the fuel efficency change?

It's probably just the engine loosening up now it's got some miles on it, most cars are only fully run in after 10,000 miles.
