60 plus mpg daily commute car recommendations

Hey A11y, strictly after a car that will give me the best mpg really not after a fun car at all...got the zed for that i guess :) I was having a chat with the guys at work about the Toyota IQ and they all didn't think the IQ would be good on the motorway. Anyone in here have experience with "city cars" on the motorway?

He he, well there's certainly better options for more mpg. We test drive a Citroen C1 (aka Pug 107 / Toyota Aygo) which is one size up from an IQ: great car on everything except motorway. Sounded great too with the 3-cyl engine. It was great around town unsurprisingly, fine on A-roads, but totally unstable on the motorway - fair enough it was a slightly windy day, but I'd not like to travel in one of them for decent distances. Shame as I really liked the car otherwise and would be tempted if I needed a runaround/station car.

I will place a biased vote for the vw Bora tdi... mines an 05 plate, remapped to 170bhp, full leather, good amount of toys, not bad looking in sport guise with a subtle spoiler and currently returning 65mpg over a tank... not bad for a car that does 0-60 in under 8 seconds. Ibiza supra tdi is a great car to.

i managed to do 68mpg in my 2.0ltr 140bhp golf on monday, that was what the computer said, i was on the motorway for 170 miles at a nice steady 65 ish
