57.4mpg at 65mph

Today I had a gentle drive from Manchester to Leek - took it easy with only a few short overtaking blasts. I filled up with petrol when I set off, and reset all the counters back to zero. Feeling pleased with myself, I checked the computer.

27.1 mpg.

41.5 mph.

Could someone enlighten me on what a scoop is? The only thing that pops into my mind are those silly things on the roof of proper barry ricer Civics!

... a 'scoop' is an unbelievable story in the tabloids, like the WW2 bomber found on the moon story, followed by WW2 bomber miraculously disappears... or 50mpg from a Z4

haha just jealous of my car being super awesome :P im on holiday next week so will do some tests with and without the scoop and see how it stacks up.

how does the car calculate fuel efficiency anyway??

I get crazy figures in the 50's range in my 3.0i at 45mph in sixth but only if I reset the counter at that speed, but as soon as i get back into stop and go traffic it returns to about 23 mpg :/

And I'm no expert by any measure but I think it take a reading off the fuel pump mashes it with the speed and rpms and spits out a realitive figure. I'm sure it's not terribly accurate either but a fairly good guess.

Will have to do some research.

Basically reset computer and driver like miss daisy, I tried it the other day and got similar readings. Once you open throttle mpg comes back down. Now reading 30mpg.

i know that opening the throttle brings it down but for a long motorway journey, knowing u can get almost 60mpg just makes the car more desirable. and with the roof down, driving much faster just isn't fun anyway for a sustained period

I went to the garage for some petrol earlier, everything set to zero. Checked the mpg when I got back and it was 15.5 mpg... But then I did go the fast / slightly long way round... Guess I should try not to be so excitable on a trip to get petrol
