4 Wheel Alignment

After all the suspension work recently my car is in a "reputable" Volvo Indi across the road from work to get 4 wheel alignment done. They have the Hunter machine but they just rang me to tell me a special tool is required to adjust rears. Told me they contacted Hunter and were told this. Anyhoo they have done the front but not the rear. Is this just BS because they A) don't know how B) Can't be arsed because adjusters are seized.
Anyone know a decent place in Glasgow / Lanarkshire area that CAN adjust the rear of a Z4? :headbang:

Seems like BS to me. I adjusted rear toe myself on my drive and the garage had exactly 0 problems adjusting it once it was in for a proper alignment.
 
Either way, if they've only aligned 2 wheels on a 4-wheel alignment they wouldn't be getting a penny from me!
 
Tosh - there's no complexity at the back of the Z4. Doesn't sound like the kind of place i'd want adjusting anything on my car!

I'd look up a 'wheel alignment centre' of sorts. We have a few near us who literally specialise in just doing wheel alignments (£50 a go!). There won't be much they've seen that they don't know how to do!
 
They're right that there's a special tool (it's like an eccentric socket) for toe adjustment, but you don't need it. Just one look at the trailing arm should be enough to see how straightforward the adjustment is.

For what it's worth, a Ford specialist wouldn't align mine either (and they didn't charge me for the pleasure of finding out!).
 
ProGrip in Larbet is the best place i have found. Run by one guy called John and basically just does wheel alignments.

Might be slightly far out for you tho.
 
Thanks - 20 mile run up the M80 so well worth it. Still to go back to guys who did it yesterday armed with evidence and research. See what they say.
 
On a related note, does it have to be Hunter?

My local garage has a Corgi machine and I was thinking of using them when I get new tyres.

It's the operator, not the tool that matters. Take it to a motorsport place and they'll likely do it with two pieces of string!

BTW, "special tool" = hammer and a lump of wood :rofl:

I asked mine how often he has to replace his special tools. One lump of wood has been with him 20 years :rofl:
