4" door speakers

ok guys as a few of you may know i have got hold of some new seats and unexpectedly got some extended leather door cards as part of the deal bonus.

So as i will be replacing the door cards i thought i will do the sound deadening and get some door speakers, so the question is which speakers to go for ?

I quite like the focal 100ca1coaxal speaker , i will be tapping into the tweater loom (i have the basic 6 speaker system hence adding the door speaker )

Also how much depth is there behind ?
 
Hi Jonny,I've got focal's in mine, they sound really good.There's plenty of room, but the holes don't match up as the BMW ones are three hole and the focal's are 4 (or is it the other way round).Mine are bolted in with only 2 bolts and they are fine.
 
cheers bigshurv yep we have 3 hole fixings so i will make some adaptor rings at work . Do you really notice the differance in sound quality?
 
I too fitted some reasonable 4 bolt speakers.
Took a feed off the tweeters and for the basic system the improvement was vaste.
Plenty of room in the door. I opted to cover the top of the speaker to avoid drips.
Modded the 3 point to take 4 bolts with a bit of Dremel work.
 
wasnt thinking about swopping my tinny speakers but now you lot are talking about it, ive started thinking maybe some cool speakers would be good... drat! :o :?

Me too! How do I find out what system i have already? I have biz Nav on a 2003 3.0i SE if that helps?
Is it worth replacing the other speakers?

jonnyfive, what sound deadening are you talking about mate? Is there an improvement to be had? Is there a way that it wont sound like I'm pulling a box of nails shut!!??
 
Well after reading the post by cj i think it was when he did all hes door mods , and like every one els fed up with the arwful tinie doors i went for the following , this was copied from there ebay site. This will make a vast improvment.

just done this on mine 03 2.5 brought a set of these http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-in-phase-xtc42_p-19733.htm but at 54mm wide the windows would catch on the way down so i then brought a pair of these pioneer ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350412407575?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 and at 43mm wide fit no problem and sound better too
 
Yes - I def did the sound deadening on my doors too and as part of a bigger project.
Used some proprietory black bitument product with silver foil coating. cut into small strips to aid working around shapes and in a tight space and plastered all the inside panel of the door.

Certainly doors shut with a better sound and feel as verified by another forum member reminding me how different they sounded.

Fitted speakers, inner door handle LED's, outer handle LEDs and puddle lights, while the doors were in bits if you feel like getting carried away :)
 
John,It makes a real difference,but as I mentioned in my PM, I've gone a bit mad and fitted a full Focal component system and a dirty great amp in the boot.I can now hear things in songs I'd never heard before as the std system was like having it played through a sock.

Sounds like you did a proper job!!!
I think Focal are a bit dear (think i heard that!) for me esp as I'm spending £500 having a clunky diff/input shaft fixed at the mo. I'm pretty sure I have the basic setup as I have cubby holes not speakers behind the seats which in turn I think means I also have blanks behind the door grills? I think I may goto the audio shop oppisite my biz and ask them for a reasonably priced improvement but def do sound deadening in doors as they sound AWFUL!! Or if anyone knows of a reasonably priced setup they would like to share I am all ears!! I dont want anything in the boot though.....
