3rd party cycle insurance

Knowing there are quite a few keen cyclists on here, how many of you have 3rd party insurance?

I'm looking to get out more on mine and will probably join a local club. They recommend taking out insurance. I'm going to look into my house insurance as I am aware this could cover it to a certain point i.e. no competitions etc.

I'll be starting on the MTB for the winter then back on the road bike in the spring.

Damage to third party, either person or object such as hitting a car or fence etc.

Hence 3rd part insurance just like a car :poke:

I'm just thinking how much does the insurance cost, and can you really do that much damage on a bike to need insurance :?

Just imagine he stacks it into your Z! With him having no insurance you're gonna be a bit screwed.

Your safe, as your too far away :)

Another example is riding in a pack you could take someone out and potentially they could claim against you.

I have always wondered about this....

My sister had her wing mirror knocked off in traffic by a cyclist a few years back.. He rode off... Presumably cyclists with no insurance just do this.

British Cycling membership will also cover you. In addition many people have third party insurance as part of their home & contents insurance for public liability claims.

Are you a member gannet?
sure am - mainly for the insurance ;)

I think a11y is too...
I am indeed. Wouldn't be without it for commuting purposes - if I accidentally whack another road user (e.g. wing mirror modification as mentioned above) then at least I've got cover. British Cycling offer similar.

I've used the legal advice CTC offer to their members quite a bit this year following my incident in Feb, which is still ongoing BTW...
