3K Rpm engine noise

Hi guys, just wanted to ask about your experiences with engine noise at 3k rpm. There is countless threads about the vanos rattle and vanos in general. I'm not sure if my car is normal in the sense that the engine sounds rough at 3k. Best described as a light metal grind sound. I might be looking into it too much as I don't have another s54 engine to compare it too! She's done
45k full Bmw history. Your thoughts welcome :)
 
Have the valves been shimmed lately as part of the major service inspection 2. My engine quietened down a lot after the clearances were adjusted back into specification. Sounds about the right mileage for it.
 
Mine sounds a little "noisy" at 3krpm or just above, had a Inspection II recently and was told this is normal for these engines.
 
Hi, Thanks. She had an inspec II earlier this year before before I got the car. I saw the internal invoice don't see any valve work being done...anyway might be normal and I'm being paranoid! Anyone live nr Epsom? With an M?
