I understand their under the car and cannot be seen ? if anyone knows different I will go and have a look

Well, the other difference is the Valvetronic (N55) vs conventional butterfly valve throttle (N54). That should be on top somewhere between the air filter and the intake manifold.

Definitely N54. All the pictures of the N55 that I have seen have the oil filler cap near the front of the engine, not the middle like the N54.
