My tips have had it on my 35i , they are corroded and no amount of attention has brought them back , they appear satin not shiney stainless

I want shiney new stainless ones , I'm thinking of having new tips welded on at a custom exhaust place

Has anyone had this done ?

Would also like to hear from any owners who have had a custom exhaust fitted ?

The only reasonable exhaust available seems to be the Miltek and I wouldnt call this cheap

I don't believe the OEM tips can be pulled off, but I'm in the same boat, as the tips on our 35i could do with a new lease of life.

Thinking of going with a black heat resistant finish for more of the stealth look.

I was debating if I got the old tips off If I could pop rivet some new double walled 4" tips on or buy decent clamp on tips which seem quite popular now with the likes of some of the big aftermarket Exhaust companies

Decided to tackle this issue late summer. The originals are satin finished but are welded on. The only way to get them off is to remove the whole exhaust system and unweld the tips. I then had them machine polished and then re-welded back on. :)

Nice, but faf to go from satin to chrome.
It's the only way to do it. Too dangerous to try and unweld on the car besides it can't be done! Yes it may be an extreme way of doing it but each to their own. And they look so much better. :D

Many thanks for sharing that !

As a matter of interest performance wise , would you get more gains with down pipes and standard exhaust or standard downpipes with Miltek or similar ?

2 things to note, I ordered replacement tips from Germany and had to send them back as they were way too big for the existing tailpipes. Cost me a lot in wasted cash and time, so the only solution was to refit the newly polished ones, which I'm more than happy with.
In terms of performance, I haven't a clue and I'm sure there are others on here would be happy to advise. Sorry.
Andy.

What, No welding involved. You just pull the old satin ones off and push new ones on. I did it last month.
You might have to tug hard to get the old ones off, but they will come. I got new stainless polished ones to push right back on. No fuss at all. Unless they have changes some of the exhaust systems. I have a 2013 28i. My 528i is the same way. 35i might be different from the looks of the pictures from the previous post.

Most definitely not a case of pulling them off. If that had been the case I would have done it. You can see on the pictures where the compression points are where the welds are.
