35i DCT jerky/lumpy is this normal

Hi new on here so here goes
Got a fantastic Z4 35i with DCT and Adaptive suspension just wondered if when slowing down in 1st and 2nd gear or when driving in slow moving traffic should the DCT be jerky and for a car like this not very smooth also when braking Hard sometimes not so hard should the DCT bang / thump into first when coming to a stop.
Going to book the car in next week but wanted to to know if any of you had any ideas.

Mine was never Jerky (before it was replaced) mine was a D1 and R engagement vibration. ...and yes its normal for a slight thump into first when slowing quickly, its how BMW got around some early wrong gear/stalling issues (software update). The DCT is quite different to any manual or auto and it takes time to learn how to drive it best. Perhaps you just need a little time to get used to it? How severe is the jerking? Are you simply not used to the slight delay between the pedal and engagement/disengagement that is quite noticeable in Normal mode? Try the car in Sport mode to see how this differs.

Had the car for six months the jerky ride
At low speeds seem to only have recently
Occurred the car also bangs/ thumps into
Reverse and thumps into park have had a
Few other cars manuals and autos 330ci
530i 328i Audi TT Audi A8 non of these
Cars ever seemed as jerky or hard to
Drive smooth so I think a trip to the
Dealer is in order.

The best example of the jerky ride is when
Getting home the approach to our house is
The first house on the road after just accelerating
Up a hill just as you get in to the road you
Come off the gas this results in the car
Lurching forwards and the exhaust letting out
A sharp rasp /barble which I'm told by the
Neighbours sounds very nice I just need to
Know if this is normal or am I worrying for
No reason
Cheers

Its hard to say without driving it myself to compare, I suppose what I'd say is if you're concerned then its not right because at no point does mine ever cause me concern other than its a bit slow to engage gears / take up in normal mode /D1/D2 sometimes. It never lurches when coming off the gas but you do get all sorts of sound effects, and yes, R and D1 do clunk as does Park. Its a very different gearbox to any that you mention and its also a bit thumpy at times, all perfectly normal.

If you believe you can't control the car properly, and you don't believe its your driving style, then speak with the dealer, drive them, and have them drive it.

know nothing about these gearboxes, are they a full auto or a new flappy paddle type; how many miles, i had a merc auto box rebuilt a few years ago when it lost reverse, 3 0r 4 months prior to that , i was getting slipping and clunky changes and that big kick in the back on some shifts, changed box filter and atf and it worked fine again till it lost reverse, tech said the damage was don when it was slipping , as was getting hot and did the seals, since then i have always changed filters and fluid at every 30,000 miles, bmw are fond of their lifetime fills, you just need to look at the colour of the fluids when they are drained to know thst its got to be better to change regularly. my merc was high miles , so yours shouldnt be worn too much yet but worth changing filter and fluid if not on service schedule. good luck

My DCT does give a small clunk when I put it in to park but as I recall so did the demo car that I had for a day so I assume this is normal. Apart from that no noise or jerkiness
