Is it worth it, are the gains believable?

Spend the coin on service parts Colin , will do more for the car
Change induction will cost less & give more i would suspect & if not already using V Power then try that out as the change from 95 will most likely be similar to a remap

Pretty sure its safe but as the increase is less than 10% and its already quite a powerful engine then I'm not sure if you would notice it...

FYI the x3 actually has the same engine but with more power as standard.... Annoyingly!

I'm still awaiting my map (my own fault, just not had time to get it out on the car!) but it should be good - I'll keep you updated if you're interested.

If you want to spend a bit of money I'd do the CDV delete first will cost a lot less and make more of a difference

I had a V6 TT 3.2 & changed onto V power , felt sharper , then fitted a carbon induction box for around £160 , felt noticeably sharper on throttle response 0-30mph but little difference after that & doubt it offered any significant BHP gain
I just don't believe remaps offer benefits to na cars for the spend , Jamie had his 2.5 done a couple of days before he traded it so must not have WoWed him any

Yeh, I hear what you're saying. I've remapped several cars and the most noticeable difference in performance was my Mondeo ST TDCi Being a turbo diesel it was perfect for a remap, and I can honestly say it transformed the driving experience - smoothing out the power through all the gears.

For sure on turbo cars its well worth freeing up the torque ive always used MAS performance at Keighley , they've done 6/7 vehicles for me with great results , no issues & nothing like the price quoted in your linky :wink:

I always understood that it is primarily diesels that benefit most from a remap in terms of performance improvement. Downsides are that remapping can invalidate your car insurance if it isnt declared and manufacturers warranties. Probably not really worth it unless you are thinking of becoming a 'boy racer'

CDV is worth doing, it's only a ten minute job. It's not going to make any difference to performance thou.

I'll be having mine done by the boys at Ecotune in Glasgow sooner or later.

They are the only people I'd trust mapping a BMW.

^diesels are prime for remaps because there's plenty of scope for increasing power due to the turbo and the disparity between the factory emissions requirements and the mot requirements.

Not sure I understand your comment re boy racers - so far as I can see mapping a car to improve drivability and tailor things such as throttle response, Rev limit and torque request maps are all things a discerning drive would do....
