Hi all

I’m sure you won’t have this answer without looking- but can you have a look next time you are out and about please.

When at 70mph steady, what RPM is indicated on the dash?

I ask because mine sits at 2750 and it seems to me to be ‘high’.

Thank you in advance

Stuart

Despite having owned a few (seven) I can't remember but that sounds about right assuming you are in 6th

According to AI (and that's never wrong) the N52B30 with an autbox should sit between 2,500 - 2,800 - with a manual it will be closer to 3,000.

Cheers Garrie

It may be that the sound generator is foam free so the in car noise adds to the experience

It just feels higher than it should. Plus the M deffo idles lower at 70 in 6th

Both of mine were very similar to that, although an indicated 70 was probably more like a true 65!

My manual E90 330i is higher geared, 70 is only 2,500rpm. But I liked how well the Z4 responded to get back up to speed if you got held up as the N52 makes peak torque at 2,500rpm, which means my 330i isn't nearly as responsive.

Bearing in mind they rev to 7,000 that still means they are theoretically geared for over 170mph, so it isn't that low geared.

Top speed will be based on 5th as it's a 1:1 ratio. That should be pretty close to 150.

(My E36 325i auto was geared to 204mph at redline in 5th!)

From what I've seen posted online regarding the different ratios, the coupe and roadster have slightly different ratios.

The coupe is running 3.46, and the roadster is a 3.23 I believe.

I've actually got a 3.46 ratio diff in my garage to put into my 3.0Si roadster, as it doesn't feel as perky as my old 130i was, which again I believe was 3.46.
