3.0si Fuel Economy drop

Now then guys n gals....

I need to delve into your unlimited font of knowledge, and experience.

I have noticed recently, that my mpg has dropped quite significantly. I am doing pretty much the same trips as always, and I am struggling to get near to 25mpg. I haven't changed how I drive, and look after my car (well I think I do anyway), using only the good fuel (Shell V-Power) and synthetic oil. The air filters are still looking clean as new and I have had it serviced as recently as july.

I normally get a steady 29mpg even with the occasional heavy right foot.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I have no warning lights, tyre pressures are good, air con is off....... I wondering if I might need a remap, just to get things in place again. Its been pretty cold and wet weather of late, but can't see that giving me a 4mpg drop, if anything the car should be loving all the lovely cold air to breath....

I'm outta ideas.....

I drop about 3 - 4 mpg in the winter months with the colder mornings. My daily commute to work are all within the city, so stop and start, longer trips on motorway over 30 miles I get the same mpg in winter as in the summer months.

I didn't notice it last year, but if its a common thing, then fair enough.

Spark plugs might be worth a look

I was thinking of checking those, as it has been starting pretty rough if I'm honest. Doesn't seem to like cold starting of late. but does any car...

Runs fantastic except for the first start of the day which it makes a right horrid moaning noise until it warms up.

I think I just have a soft Zed that hates the cold by the sounds of it.

Mine starts perfect first time, so spark plugs could be an issue now you have mentioned it runs rough at start up.

It's normal for the economy to drop in colder weather, it should rise again in the summer.
Regards

Another thing that can cause a decrease in MPG is if one, or both, of the the pre-cat O2 sensors are starting to fail
