3.0Si Engine Light

Hi all,

I'm new to forum and have had my zed for around 3 months now.

After driving my zed around, it started to stall when stationary and the starting was harder all of which resulted in the engine light coming on. I checked the fault code and the code was as below:

P0012 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1)

I have cleared the fault and it came back after 10-12miles.

Has anyone come across this before on the zed and will it be the camshaft position sensor only? My zed is a 2007 N52 with 120k.

Thanks

Have you got DISv57? What does it say when you relearn the camshaft stops?

Hi,

Many thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, I do not have DISv57. I am merely borrowing a Autel MaxiScan to read the codes. I have to drive a while before the light reappears, therefore I do not believe it to be Live fault - I suppose the official BMW diagnostics would reveal?

Thanks

Does anyone think it would be a waste of time replacing the vanos solenoids?

Hi Scooba steve,

Many thanks for the suggestion.

I will give it a go and will see what happens.

--------------------------------- Update ------------------------------------------

I swapped the vanos solenoids & the camshaft sensors and the fault didn't move.

Any ideas, or is it time for the rocker to come off?

Hi, did you clear the fault codes before you swapped the vanos solenoids?

Thanks for your message and yes :(

I did it after changing them as well, before taking it for a spin. The fault only seems to reoccur once the car has been driven, idling in the drive doesn't cause the fault.

Rocker off? It is worth noting, I am not using a BMW diagnostic tool. Only a generic code reader.
