3.0si coupe to z4m roadster...?

As the title leads, has anyone gone from a coupé to an M roadster?

A nice looking approved roadster is up for sale near me, and it's got me thinking. Is there a massive difference in rigidity between the coupé and roadster that means you would notice whilst driving? Is the M even more fun with the roof down, or is the roadster a bit soft?

views welcomed, especially if you've made the move, i've been looking at eh M's for a while and it seems the roadster isn't holding its value as well as the coupe, so a swap from the 3.0si to an m roadster should see negligible cost as there's an age / mileage difference too.

M with roof down ... that engine, that exhaust

Re rigidity - I think the car would outperform your capabilities unless you are an extreme competent driver ...

Rigidity really isn't noticeable between them for us mere mortals.

Hmm...Does your 3.0Si have ISOFIX? What's the age/colour/spec... ;)

op did you know the z4mr is stiffer than the old e46 m3 coupe?? yup it certainly is, forget the rigidity issue cars like the boxsta and the z4 are designed to be roofless, i use mine on the track and its freakin awesome, the coupe is stiffer without doubt, but..... whether it makes you faster on your B road or track day is subjective. go for the one you like the look of best, i tried the coupe and roadster and prefur the MR, but for me its a third car, strictly weekend use only and pretty much only comes out in the summer nice days, so the roadster fitted me perfectly, your needs may be different i.e you may prefur the security of the coupe or the looks? ive modded my ///m and its absolutly is one of the best car ive owned and is imo right up their with the greats its a surefire future classic with imo one of the very best engines..... ever!! the s54b32.

I'm going to look at it this morn and see. Test drove an M coupe a couple of months back and didn't fall for it at the time but have been slowly changing my mind, the roadster is a different proposition i'd discounted before on the looks. But top down sound is starting to appeal.

texas john - current coupe is Montago blue, isofix, 29k miles, 57plate, loads of extras: xenons, individual leather, comfort pack, hifi stereo, heated seats, bluetooth, folding mirrors, sun protection glass. Full BMW sh, and i bought the 5yr / 60k miles service and maintenance pack, so all servicing and maintenance (clutch, brakes, wipers etc) are now free for the next 2 yrs / 30k miles

Had a look at the car and it's a good price / spec. But looked quite rough around the edges - dented passenger kick plate, tears in the back of the seatd behind the headrests, scratches on the boot, missing screw cover on the drivers door handle and marks on the seats. expected more from an AUC car.

To be fair, they offered to sort out the issues, but it doesnt give the impression that the car has been looked after... The hunt (soft of) continues. Does anyone have a blue M they're thinking of selling?

I'm tempted to do something with you but I know I would miss the M engine if I was to swap for the 3.0si...I did think about it though, hence my earlier question!!

Mate I bought mine AUC. I viewed the car before prep, It had been on autotrader for a few hours with no pics.

I drove 250 miles to view it. Dented drivers door, all corroded alloys, broken aerial, keyed, bird s**t and torn leather. I was not impressed. But I saw it as an opportunity...

I was told the car had been left as it was for a few years by the previous owner

I got 600quid off, parking sensors thrown in, and every minute blemish/ repair done by BMW Southhampton to my level of standard.

Once I got the car, you would not believe it was the same car. Looked brand new.

Bargain with them...
