3.0i and 3.0i SE model trim differences?

Hi guys,

Now that I am looking for a Z4, I was wondering if you could clear a couple of things up for me.

Mainly, what is the difference between the 3.0i and 3.0i SE? Is there any performance difference?

Will the 3.0i have the box which allows you to control the grunt you hear from the engine in the cab? ( don't know what it is called)

A general overview of the differences would be really helpful!

Thanks a lot :D

That is indeed what I was talking about.

Are there any other big differences? Is there a performance difference? I know this particular car has heated seats, 6 cd changer, Xenons, reverse sensors. Does that mean it would be an SE?

03 models only came in SE trim it wasn't till the facelift in 06 that you got a difference.ie SE and Si trim

So I'm not getting a lesser car or anything then? I am just a bit baffled by the various versions made by BMW.

The way I looked at it, buying a 2003 3.0i Z4, it is 228bhp? I don't know what features are standard either.

Pre facelift there is only one model of 3.0i

At some point between 2003-2006 BMW added or removed the SE designation (I can't remember which way round)

But there is not difference between them.

You need to look at the optional extras.
Leather seats
Or sports seats
Heated seats
Cup holders
Sat nav
Upgraded stereo
Folding mirrors
Xenons
Alloys
Cruise control
Etc

Not quite true, Si isn't a trim level it's an engine designation.

Post face lifts are either SE or Sport

The car has all of these, the only one I am not sure about is the upgraded stereo, it has a 6 cd changer and says BMW business above the cd player I think?

If it has a storage bin behind each seat it's the basic system. If not its either the mid or top.

On the Nav screen if you have a DSP option you have top, otherwise mid level (using logic above also)

Flip seats forward, is there a speaker grill behind each seat or a large storage hole, if you have speakers then you have upgraded stereo.

When I got my first Z4 it was a 2004 3.0SE, I wanted heated sports seats and it was hard to find a good Z4 with them. Reason was my Z3 had them and the first Z4 I tested had normal seats and it felt like poor support and almost turned me off buying one, a must have for me.
made a mistake on my 2007 3.0SI, heated sports seats but no cruise control did not notice on the test drive and had thought it was standard on the 3.0SI.
I must do more research next time to get all the things I need.
