3.0 sound generator vs Mini Sound Generator ?

So after looking to put my car back to stock I’ve been trying to source all the air box and sound generator parts for my 2006. 3.0si

Airbox is sorted - eBay
Middle pipe section sorted - eBay

Now the sound generators are much harder to come by especially the newer version for the N52 engine. Non on eBay and don’t fancy dropping on brand new one.

So after some digging some of the mini’s have a sound gen which most people remove as they say it effects performance and so plenty for sale on eBay.

Correct me if I’m wrong but who thinks these are probably the same part and work the same from BMW but with different brackets for the z4/mini ?

I don't understand how the sound generator would affect performance.

I thought the same but the mini generator is built into the turbo induction system and they think it lowers boost pressure “apparently”
