3.0 Oil Change

Evening,

Took my car in today for an oil change (not service) - I specifically requested the service indicator not to be reset and for just the engine oil to be changed.

How long should a garage take to change the engine oil, assuming no problems?

I've changed engine oil on novas and orions i had when i was a kid and never really timed myself but know it's not a big job.

Out of interest, does anyone know the time billed for an oil service on a 3.0? there's a few bit (checking brakes etc) that are beyond a simple oil change.

dealers work on fractions of an hour i.e. .1 = 6 minutes etc, but I suspect they have a policy of a minimum charge of half an hour.....though any tech should do it in .3 of an hour including fag break and chin wag time

Thats just for an oil change
 
hmmm..1.25 hours, @ £40/hr. and tbh, the car was barely there for 1.25 hours.

i shall query in the morning...this is the second time they've done this. they tried to charge me 3 hours' labour a while back and the car had only been there 2.

was hanging me nose over a lovely 997 they had in there as well - they should be keeping me sweet... :wink:
 
A while back a local garage tried to charge me 2 hrs labour for checking and tightening the suspension. I thought that was excessive. What was better was that a mate worked opposite and he told me that (a) the car didn't go up on the ramp and (b) it didn't actually even go into their workshop... robbing bar stewards. :thumbsdown:
 
I changed mine and filter 2 weeks abo without the benefit of a ramp and took me <30 minutes.

In reality it's so simple to undo the sump cover (1 screw) then remove drain plug. While its draining remove filter from top. (1 large nut). Fit new seal and filter. Refit drain plug. Pour in oil and check level.

30 mins seems reasonable garage time/rate.
 
it is a simple job, it's just by the time you've gone and got the parts, and disposed of the old oil, it becomes more time consuming.

i find local dumps vary wildly. the one in peterborough is absolute rubbish :tumbleweed: , i did once get into fisticuffs with some twat who was throwing rubble into the rubble skip, one bit bounced off the edge and hit my car. in fact, paradoxically, most people i know in my town send their missus to the dump, as the blokes who work there fall over themselves to empty cars driven by lone females.

stamford didn't have a dump, it had 5 bin lorries in a car park on a saturday morning and once they were full they went.

and spalding had a really good dump, which was very well organised and easy to access and exit. it stunk though.
