3.0 Fuel Consumption (again)......!

South West Midlands. Only one garage so far. Mostly £1.04 - 1.06 range on average.

Mind you, see here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7672069.stm

I had a bit of a change of my usual fuel economy today. It's normaly about 35mpg.....

Today after about 7/8ths of a tank, it was reading at 16.8mpg

I bet Plowy can beat that though.

Hi there.

2003, 3.0, manual, sports package, 40K miles, all stock.

Just drove 400 miles each way on Interstate 65 with the top down at an average of 72mph.

Highway: 32.5mpg
City: Less than 20mpg

Check your fuel tank, I thought mine had bad fuel consumption as well and it turned it had a hole in it, the mechanic said it was a quite normal error with the Z4's fuel tank :x

Hehe, no fuel tank leak

Just a bit more fun than usual, I'll post a thread later in the gallery section

are you doing short journeys?
I reset my meter last week and drove 79 miles from West Berks to near Northampton, a mixture of A34, M40 and country roads. Taking it easy I got 41mpg .I reset it again for the rest of the week, driving 4-6 miles twice a day and over the court of 5 days it dropped to 24.5mpg. Short trips don`t help, stop-go also (obviously).
On average mine returns 30-31 mpg most of the time using 98ron, this is what I get if I don`t reset if for 2+weeks doing different types of driving (motorway, urban, rural)

Do the obbious, check tyre pressures etc. Also it`s worth getting a fuel card of some sort. I`ve got a Shell drivers card which returns some dosh now and again in the form of discount coupons ( but not much). I`ve also picked up a Citi-Shell credit card recently that I intend to use for fuel only, this gives cashback of 6pence per litre for the first 60 days and then 3p a litrer after that. Every little help.....

I think it`ll be hard to sell a car of decent value at the moment - don`t get buggered! But if you must......

I picked up one of those Shell credit card applications the other day, the 3p a litre off is very attractive since I use about £60 a week. I'll do the same and use it just for fuel.

My 16.8mpg reading came from a day on Croft race circuit, about £45 worth of fuel burnt off purely for fun

It's nice that a tank of fuel has fallen about 10% in the last 6 weeks, I could only squeeze in £50.66 worth of Vpower today.

It`s 6 pence a litrre for the first 60 days too, double ya manny. It`s typical that I`ve now cut my weekly milage down by staying local rather than commuting home each day, but it`ll still help in the long run. Until recently I was putting in about £50 every 2.5 days so I could of done with the shell credit card two months ago.

16.8 MPG on track - ha haha, but oh what fun eh? How do you find the Z4 on track? I think they must be pretty good fun. I was tempted to take mine to Castle COmbe a while ago but decided not to as I needed it for work :headbang: and didn`t want to bugger me brakes. When it`s worth a lot less (next week  ) I will definately take it on track, I`ve tracked a few older cars in the past (an old 1987 BMW E30 M3 for one  )

I thought I'd add my 2p worth... I drove from Southampton to Great Yarmouth yesterday which is around 230 miles and mostly motorway with some A roads. I set the cruise control at 72mph and that combined with hard acceleration from sliproads and roundabouts and the usual M25 congestion, some 50mph stretches on A roads and the drive around town on arrival I averaged according to the trip computer 40.3 MPG.... OK so from previous checking I've found this to be 1-2 MPG ambitious than actual calculations but its not far off and seems a darn sight better than a lot of people on here... Maybe I should drive faster! :D

I just filled up here in Northampton and it was 97.9 !!!!! It was great the litres were going up faster than the pounds LOL.... Almost feels cheap LOL..
