2x 19" 326 rear wheels with no tyres- will they fit in my boot?

Hi all, I've just manged to find a couple of replacement 326 wheels for my cracked rears - I'm wondering if anyone has practical experience of knowing if they will both fit in the boot of my Z4 or do I need to take a more boring drive for the trip! They don't have tyres, but I suspect it will be a tight fit. The wife is in the passenger seat and I suspect that asking her to hold one for the 3 hour ride home wont be looked on kindly

Obviously I could measure my existing ones and then see what space there is, but as you know the boot on the E89 is rather a odd/restricted shape. And IF the answer is YES, can I get the roof down too that would be a bonus (although I am not expecting this to be the case!).

Rob, when are you going?

I’m getting a rear 326 back without tyre at the end of the week/weekend. The other rear in the shed has the tyre on.

Doubt it. One rear wheel and tyre takes up considerable space in the boot.

What I did recently was to carry one wheel with tyre in the boot and one on the front seat. I was very careful with sheets and padding to protect the car and wheel in the cabin. I only had to travel 2 miles to the tyre shop.

there will be no tyres on the ones I am picking up..but I know what you mean - hence I was asking the question.

I need to find something alloy wheel sized in the house to test with! :D

i think if they are stored upright (as in how they would sit on the hub) without tyres on they should fit, not sure you'd get away with the roof down though, surely if you measure from floor upwards you'd see more than 19 inches?.. measuring across should be easy enough too if you know the wheel sizes. All guess work from here but without tyres I have a feeling they would fit.

Got a spacesaver spare in any other cars? they're usually 14/15 inch and with tyres on must be close to 19

well its official, they wont both go in. I made a cardboard template and was surprised that they measure 21" diameter (not 19) you learn something new every day!. :D

Either lying down (no chance) or standing up - although the boot will mostly close (I have driven like that with a cycle sticking out the back so its possible), but I think it'll be the less exciting drive to pick them up!

So one in the boot, one in the passenger footwell, suitably padded, with wife's feet on top?
If she tilts her seat base back to bring her knees up (!) then maybe it would work.
Sell her on that, cos by the time she realises its not ideal you'll be there already and she has no option. (NB. Take earplugs  )

and probably a crash helmet to deflect the punches
Slightly off topic but what's the going rate for a couple of rear 326's without tyres at the moment if you don't mind me asking. The prices are all over the place people asking silly money for cracked wheels requiring repairing.

they were listed at 375 each - there's some at 420 too (plus delivery) . I got them for 575 for both. almost at the price to consider non BMW ones, but I really like the 326s..

Yeah I know what you mean about the 326's being a nice looking wheel, touch wood mine are ok at the minute but I've been looking out for a couple of spares just in case. just amazed how much people are asking for full sets with the rears cracked.

I love 326's but not that much, £575 at that price I'd be looking at 19" 437M replicas or similar. What happens if one of the new 326's fail? I've been looking for one (rear- got tyre in garage, to use as a spare) and I'm still debating whether to get my 326's powder coated or sell them on and buy replicas.

I’m with you, except I’d be going for the genuine article (437M) and selling the 326’s (without tires) to make up the shortfall. I realise 326 don’t sell so well on here, but there seems a healthy market for them on EBay, gumtree etc.

dont like those, but each to their own . If you want 326s and without cracks, which is what I am paying for, that's actually a reasonable deal.

I considered these, but when it comes to selling, I think unmarked 326's will help - especially if you want to get a good price for your 35is.

Plus I am not overly convinced that any bmw 19" wheel is strong.. its just pot (hole) luck

I'm ahead of you already, I'm keeping these for when I sell the car and then doing up my old ones - I also have another set of winter alloys.

I know the 326's are a big debating point on the forum. But there's still a lot of them out in the real world. majority of E89's I see whilst out and about are still running on 326's and looking all the better for it IMHO.
£575 for the replacements is a lot but the cracked one's they are replacing depending on how bad would probably sell for £200. factor that in and it takes the sting out of it.
