28i or 30i

Drove a 28i today and have to say i was very impressed with it, the car was an auto, which i admit to also being impressed with, however i still think i want a manual.

Though i think i will be happy with either a 28i or 30i and have to say i think i am leaning towards the 28 after today (which is a real suprise) think i will go and have a go in a 28i manual if i can find a local dealer with one and see what i think!!!

Though think i might wait for a 35i Msport manual, even if they are as rare as hens teeth it appears!!! :D

will keep looking and see what happens, i am sure the right car will show up eventually! :driving:
 
straight 6 is 6 in one long line, V6 is 2 banks of 3 which are in a "v" formation (i.e. each side of the v is one cylinder and there are 3 "v") Due to firing orders etc it can be very difficult to get a V6 "balanced, whereas a straight 6 doesnt suffer from this as the cylinders are in a straight line.

It would take a long time to recoup the fuel savings you'd make with the 28i, if ever!

The 30i will have hill start assist and the 28i won't. Only matters if you get a manual.

A 28i with a manual will have auto-stop start.

A 28i built after March 2012 has the top mechansim that works when the car is moving at low speeds. Minor feature that many of us would never use, but maybe it is something you want.

+1. Your real world fuel savings will probably be smaller than the specifications indicate.
 
Only go for the 28i if fuel consumption is big for you
The whining in the 20i I drove was very annoying plus a 6 cylinder sounds great
Also the 3.0 has hill assist which is a huge thing for me on a manual
 
After all that i think i may have found the car

a 35is (DCT obviously) has come up that looks fantasitic value, going to have a look this weekend, (though have a feeling i might be going for it!) :driving:

though think if i do i will investigate changing the paddles to up right down left (which i think some people have done?)

Can you explain more about this "whining" noise. I've got a 20i and there is a noise that others gets but no ones put a finger on what it is, like a fan in the centre of the dash only when youve got throttle on. Is that what you mean?
