21 reasons to hate the dealership

Well it should actually be H21W reason...

Out driving on Sunday morning and the bulb warning light comes on. The right turn indicator started flashing very fast so I quickly narrowed it down to one of the 2 bulbs on the right front corner. As it happens, I was on my way to an auto parts store (Canadian Tire for any Canucks) that sells just about everything else as well so I thought I would pick up the replacement bulb while there. Turns out they didn't carry the required bulb and told me that I'd have to go to the dealership.

So today at lunch I head out to the dealership and discover when I get there that they want $26!!! Give me a break, that's probably 6x to 10x the price of a comparable bulb with a different base at the auto parts store. I expected to pay more but never thought I would have to get out the vaseline for such a basic part. Before he rang it up the guy behind the counter said he didn't know why BMW packaged the bulbs individually but having seen and paid the price I should think they would be using the same little velvet boxes jewelry stores use instaed of box board.

end of rant

It only gets worse.
I had the same problem, only it was the front left side indicator.
Idiot light on the dash, indicator going at triple time.
Off to Parts Source (a subsidiary of Canadian Tire) - No part available !
Decided the Dealer was my only choice.
Bulb available at $41 !!!!! (some sort of a special bulb H21 w ??)
Yikes.
Decided to try NAPA and they had one for $17.
All this for a bulb that looks similar to one in a Cub Scout's Flashlight.

Holy thread revival batman! :hijacked:
Rob

Ha Ha
Actually before I "extracted" the bulb I searched and found a good thread that Marlon had posted about his experience changing out the front turn indicator bulb, and how the dash warning proved troublesome.
You think I could find that thread in a search when I came to post ?
Nope

Plus I didn't want to offend with a new thread when all that was required was a proper search.
So there you go Robin
