2015 - My Zed Year

Number5

Elite
 Bristol M4/M5
I did this last year, so thought I'd quickly do one again !
So here's my 2015 year...

January
It all started with two Sterling Grey Zeds in the garage. The original 2004, 2.5 which was my first ever Zed and a 2003 3.0 that I had just acquired locally, hours prior to it being PX'd into Mercedes. You may remember that I was confused as to which one to keep as I was slightly under-whelmed by the 3.0's powe, even though it was well loaded with toys (inc TV) and wasn't sure if to move it on and keep the 2.5 or not.

The dilemma was shortly resolved when JamieT advertised his Alpina and as fate would have it, it was only about 45 minutes away from me. I viewed it and then walked away. The wheels were tatty, there was a ding in a rear wheel arch and it was slightly mossy from being parked under a tree.

I was disappointed after seeing the advert photos but I slept on it and thought, if I can get the price down it's the right car and I can sort it in my own time, (Unlike JE who started on the wrong car !), so i advertised both the 2.5 & the 3.0. I sold the 3.0 in 7 days which gave me the cash I needed to call Jamie back and we agreed a figure. The following week I also sold the 2.5, so it all came together. I picked up the Alpina #019 off Jamie on 17th January, (Thank you Perry for all your advice and help at that time).

February
Very soon I met up with Zedwheels and Big Red Cat to compare cars and learn all about the Alpina. We enjoyed a good drive up through the Wye Valley stopping for lunch at Tintern and a few pics.

Welsh roads with Spikey, Phil & 2Dogs

March
There were also other numerous Sunday morning hoons with the local boys, usually starting or ending in the Chepstow area. Here we are under the Severn Bridge

Looking good in the sunshine...

Big Red Cat, Zedwheels, Phill45110, Spikey & Myself got to one of the first Haynes breakfast meets

April - The English Welsh Meet !
At Dick Lovett BMW

43 Cars, all neatly aligned - Apart from Danstarr, who parked his Roadster on the Coupe row !

June
A run through the Cotswolds with Spikey, Danstarr, Limpmisfit & Phil

July
An off-the cuff trip up North to visit a friend, gave me the opportunity to meet up with Mr Wilks for the first time and enjoy an afternoon drive on his patch. (I still cant believe he's selling it ! )

And I also took the bear for company !

August - Zedwheel's marathon Welsh Z3 & Z4 Hoon. A great trip up over the mountains and through the valleys. almost 150 miles I think ! 5 Coupes, 5 Roadsters & 4 "Z3 thingys" !

Even the Coupe's looked good !

October - The French Trip
Mr Wilks, Machine Monkey, Taz , SRHutch and myself all made our way over to Normandy and met up at Mr Wilks place. Fantastic Roads, accomodation, weather and company. This is really why you should own a Zed and how you should enjoy it. We saw incredible roads and scenery and Taz once topped 85mph...briefly

The infamous Zed Arrows photo series !

The trip back to Calais, just myself and Monkey crossing the Sienne

November

The Big 5-0, the cake with my two loves ( The Car & Dog !)

We also all met up at Gordano Services to see the last Flight of the Vulcan. Unfortunately we should have gone to the bridge, where my work mate captured it !

A photo opportunity whilst waiting in the car park !

December:
Respray and then put to bed for a few months...

...as Ive now another fish to fry.. ( A winter project)

The Fourth Z4 I've owned this year... ! Good job my wife is understanding  !

So thats it.. 2015 in pictures, which just leaves me to thank all of you for a great forum, great advice & banter, plus a special thanks to all those who I've been out driving with during 2015 and those who've organised and attended events.

Happy New Year to all of you :driving:

Enjoyed reading that Number 5 and love the Alpina (the cake is brilliant as well!)

Happy New Year and all the best for a successful 2016

Enjoyable read + pics Alan
Memorable drives out with you & enjoyed my spell behind the wheel of the Alpina in France :driving: definitely different to 2.5, 3.0 & ///M engines in its torque + the quirky cold start noises ,
Catch up next year somewhere for sure

Great summary & pics of what looked like a marvellous year Alan, didn't realise you only bought the Alpina this year - its a beaut

Great write up Alan, has to have been one of the best years for me with the zed.

I'm hoping 2016 won't disappoint.

Did a piece on my Zed after I'd had it a year - will have a look and see if there's enough interesting stuff for the last year - run after run doesn't provide enough variety . . . . .we shall see.

Great write up Alan. Been a good year for Zeding. Planning to start the new one at 6:30 am in the morning, with a drive up to North Cornwall before the rain returns.

Same here, Cindy's working and has got to leave at 6:30 so I'll be waking her up with a cup of tea at 5:30 - good job I'm used to getting up at that time for work

It's supposed to be dry here tomorrow morning and I love getting out on a nice, crisp New Year's day, the roads are empty and you can let 'er rip (whilst obeying all posted speed limits, of course.... officer :police:)

Thats a great reflection of the year. Some lovely pictures. I hope this year will be as memorable, I would love to get out more.

Excellent write up & photos Alan. You must have won the "Most Zeds in one year" competition
Well done & thank you for all the effort you put in to the English/Welsh meet & all the other little meets we have (even if we did miss the main attraction  )
Looking forward to 2016 :driving:

I just need to get you to Le Mans this year now so we can get some great pics and sounds (engine)
