Hi Everyone

Well it's that time again when the misses and me are planning a euro Z4 roadtrip for the end of august, for 7 days.

Some of you may remember last year we did a roadtrip heading for Rome, via breganz, stelvio, bologna, Florence, Milan etc.

I got ill in breganz, we tried to push on to Florence but then ended up coming home early, upon which I was rushed to A&E with sepsis, pneumonia and myocarditis and 3.5 weeks in hospital, 3 months off work. Ouch.

Anyway - this means that we can go back again this year with no real conscious!

We're going to Florence and rome at the start of june so the trip doesn't need to include them this time, so it's a real driving free-for-all.

I'm thinking (if we can plan it ok)

Stay near davos or bormio or north Italy somewhere, stelivo, then head downwards, Monaco, Nice and then back up?

Not sure yet - need to get planning. Just want decent weather, driving roads and passes and good food.

Just glad my wheels are being refurbed and I'm getting some non-rft tyres on, my god it was noisy last time!!

Obviously I'll do another live blog like I did last time - I know a lot of you enjoyed following our journey and ups and downs (including the drivers elec window breaking at the Eurotunnel on the way out!!)

Any suggestions?

HI Itguy, I'm keen to see how this pans out. Im due to move house at the end of May and have no holidays booked, everything is on hold this year apart from the odd day out (Duxford, Silverstone, etc). I can pretty much take holiday as required so Ill be following this thread. I might even see if I can make just a part of the journey. See how it goes.

Well - here's our route - starting 28th May '14 - we're staying in Tuscany for a week... might even go to Immola!
Maybe it will serve as some inspiration?

Have a look at the Route Napoleon if you're heading North from Monaco - meant to be a good driving road!

Also - Gotthardpass, Furkpass and Sustenpass - (hence our stay in Interlaken so we can get out on the roads early that day!)

7 great passes from Interlaken, my favourites being the susten and Nufenan.

Whatever you do don't get sidetracked by the road signs and end up going through the ST Gothard tunnel, unless the weather is frightful (mist / rain / snow) 17km long and really boring. The new tunnel (if its open yet) is even longer.......

Ive ridden them all on my motorbikes, but not had the pleasure of the car out there as yet.

Oh and avoid the weekends as all the bikers are out, and they are really, really, really mad - overtaking on the inside and outside of the bends

ENjoy

The route Napolean is excellent!! Done it 3-4 times by motorbike.

There's an article and route advice in this months RIDE magazine.

Tuned in last time mate & ready for some more
Ive done the Lyon / Grenoble /Cannes route on the way South ,
Totally underestimated the time to get down to the coast from Grenoble but WOW on the scenery & roads

Going back from Menton (just near Monaco), there is much better than "Napoleon route" (a lot of traffic and cops everywhere). Take the Turini pass, then Mercantour (Bonette pass), Barcelonette, Vars pass, Izoard pass, etc; if this sounds good for you.

It could be two days accross French Alps.

I may join you if available, on this part of the trip, as I am living there.

Mercantour:

Alpes de haute Provence

Bonnette Pass (2700 m)

Izoard Pass

I read that in RIDE magazine. Lots of good routes. I quite fancy Norway after reading it and working there years ago.
