2013 Z4 battery kill switch help

Hi All,

I have a 2013 Z4 which i am prepping for shipment to overseas. The car needs to been almost empty of fuel and battery disconnected for shipping. If i disconnect the battery and then close the boot I will have a lot of problems. My solution is to fit a battery cut off kill switch in the cabin somewhere. This would be on the negative terminal. The kill switches are fairly standard, anybody know what size AWG cable i would need to extend the battery negative into the cabin and then return into the boot? Also, is there an easy route into the cabin from the boot?

Thanks

If you disconnect the battery will the boot actually close? I don't think the soft latch mechanism will work, will it?

The door glass has to drop to open the doors and the roof is electric. Not sure how you will do it!

The route I've used between the cabin and the boot is behind the rear speakers at shoulder level (just below the top seat belt fixing points) on either side. Relatively easy once you know where its going.

If you have the ski loading hatch option then you can just about reach inside and re-connect the battery.

Whatever you do, don't close the boot with the battery disconnected unless you have the ski hatch open and are capable of reaching through (you need long arms)

You can open and close the doors with the battery disconnected but it does catch on the door seals slightly.

Can always drop the windows slightly to avoid catching (only need to do the drivers side)

Two ways you could do it..

Get a cheap spare battery/starter pack.
Hook it up to the jumping points under the bonnet. Open boot, disconnect original battery, lock the car then disconnect the battery under the bonnet. Close bonnet.

Or

To save buying another battery, take the original out of the boot, and hook up to jumper points as above.

Both methods would allow you to close the boot and doors normally.

One of these pocket sized lithium starter packs would work well. (Easier to store than a full sized battery).

In the first scenario, how would you get the doors to unlock? You’ve disconnected the battery in the boot, locked the doors & closed the bonnet so can’t access the jumper points :?
