2012MY - Opening/Closing roof on the move

I remember reading somewhere (here?) that Z4's with a build date after a certain date (March 2012?) would have the facility to open/close the roof on the move up to a certain speed.

Have any of you who have picked your cars up recently tried this, and if so do you have to keep your finger on the button for 20 or so seconds whilst driving, which doesn't seem like a great idea? Can you also still use the fob to open/close the roof?

I know you can get the smart top module and have read the thread, but would like to know what comes as standard with the latest cars?

Picking ours up on saturday, so will find out then anyway :)
 
I can operate mine at up to about 3mph, not tried faster. I usually open the roof while driving put of the garage. Mine was built in November 2011

The change was made to cars built in WK10 and after. Quite looking forward to having this feature so I don't look like a complete arse holding traffic up at the lights!

I pick mine up tomorrow but looking at the weather, I don't think I'll have a chance to test it quite yet :x
 
Picked mine up today...

Roof opens with remote by keeping the unlock button pressed for about 5 sec, does not close using remote.

Roof will open and close while moving, I was doing abot 15 mph when I tested it...I did have to keep my finger on the button.

True I had some woman with her head against the glass looking in..she s*** herself when the roof started to drop :oops:
 
I thought that opening of the roof when moving above about 10mph was disabled as a legal requirement? The roof blocks visibility of the rear lights when opening?
 
Not on the Z4, the lights still show albeit the third light is slightly obscured. In any event new models move the rood up to 25MPH apparently. I'm happy folding the roof at the side of the road, but if someone gives me £300, I'll adopt the Smarttop :)
