2009 sDrive 30i leaking front shock

Hi

In Feb 2018 my Z4 had an advisory on its MOT of a light misting of oil on it's passenger side damper. Subsequent MOTs have had no advisories (including one 2 weeks ago), but it's just been in the garage for an oil and brake fluid service and they've noted that it's losing some fluid.

They're not the adaptive dampers, and I assume I need to replace the pair on that axle - is it a simple DIY job? Plus what kind of prices am I looking at if I get the garage to do the work? ECP have them down as Sachs dampers but they only sell the left hand side....

Thanks

Realistically you should now replace the whole set...at that age they are well worn..

Bilstein B6s if you have normal springs are a mid range choice... :tumbleweed:

Almost anything on all 4 wheels will be a big improvement

Best thing i did on my car replace all shocks with Bilsteins B6, much better quality than what came off.
I'm sure a decent back street garage could change a pair in one hour.
I did DIY, if you are so inclined.

Well got a price through from the garage - £542 for the fronts to be done - I assume this is dampers and springs.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the B6's, or at least the right ones to fit my car. Anyone got any links? And how easy is it as a diy job?

You won’t need fresh springs unless there broken or badly corroded

Less than £600 for all 4

Don’t kill your self by mixing worn and new..at best daft worst stupid

Depends on your garage and spannering ..not trivial.. if you would contemplate swapping a radiator or disk brakes then it’s about that level

OK cheers.

Done plenty of brakes before including disks, in fact I did the ATEs on this car (front) which was easy except the disk guide bolt was seized but got it off after a bit of swearing. Done rear dampers before too. I'll have a think, thanks for the links!

Final thought I assume it’s NOT a msport version?

If it is you need the B8 version of the damper
