2007 Z4M E85 Inspection lmessage?

Hi,

New to the forum.
I have a 2007 Z4M Roadster with 49600 miles which I have owned since 2012.

When I turn the ignition on, It briefly shows "INSPECTION 14,465".

I dont recall seeing this before.

I called the dealer and the gal that answered the phone, says it is telling me how far I can still go on the oil change (she says recommended 10,000 miles)

I dont think that is what this is, LOL. Any insight from the seasoned owners who are more familiar with these cars?

I told her that I owned the vehicle since 2012 and never remember seeing this Inspection message, although I told her I dont really look, just get in and turn the key and start it.

Car runs nice and smooth with no issues noted.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

It should display the mileage until the next service every time you start it up. But sadly what it doesn't display is the date a service is due, as 2 years is the maximum between services.

And if it is showing "Inspection" it needs more than an oil and filter change! An Inspection service on an M includes checking the valve clearances when cold and adjusting them if required with shims. Other extra items will be needed depending on whether it needs an Inspection 1 or 2.

The regime should be Oil Service, Inspection 1, Oil Service, Inspection 2 and repeat.

thank you, I was thinking it was something like that. The gal that answered the phone was just the attendant, and when she started going off telling me that this was an indication of the oil change, which was 10,000 miles max, I knew she did not know what she was talking a out. I said how can a 10,000 mile service be indicated with 14500 miles, LOL.
