2007 z4 M 2.0i - EML light and throttle problems

Hi

Ive read through some of the threads and i see similar but not exactly the same issues so im going to ask this here. I recently bought this car as second hand and i have had it back at the dealer already but they cant seem to get it fixed.

The EML light on the car is permanently on - Now according to them the car has a performance exhaust system fitted and this is causing a high CO2 emissions sensor to activate and that is causing the EML light to display. Also according to them this is causing my throttling problems. Sometimes (not always) if i start the car and try to drive off, i have absolutely no power until the car gets up to about 3-4000 rpms. It Just rolls forward slowly if if the pedal is pushed down all the way to the floorboards. As soon as the RPM's get high enough then the car starts performing normally. This is obviously a concern for me ( a first time BMW owner).

Anybody have any ideas or advice? I want to take the car straight to a BMW service centre to check it out and maybe they can tell me whats wrong before i take it back to the dealership. Everything is still under warranty and they have to fix it at no cost to me but it feels like they are just trying to give me the run around to save a few bucks.

I guess it depends on where the performance exhaust starts... If its just a backbox then it is unlikely to be causing your fault, if its a full system then yes it possibly is the cause. The lambda sensors on these 2.0i's suck and do malfunction which would cause your EML to come on. Have a look under the car, there should be a bolt sticking out of the exhaust around the centre of the car (assuming it is standard up to the back box), check the wiring isn't damaged/disconnected. I don't want to worry you but I would be having a look at the exhaust manifold while you're at it, the welds on it are prone to cracking on these engines, for your sake I hope this isn't your problem because you will be in for a loooong wait while they source a replacement! Good luck finding the source of your problem and I hope it isn't too costly to repair!
