2007 E85 intermittent starting

Hi all,
I have a 2007 2.0i E85 that has had starter problems, initially when it didn't start I changed the battery and it was OK for a while. Then the problem started again, intermittently there would be nothing from the starter motor when the key was turned but all dashboard lights were fully illuminated, no dimming, after a bit of jiggling, movement it would start. So changed the starter motor for a new 1, all good again for a while. Been about 2 weeks now and I am starting to get the intermittent problem of nothing from the starter motor when turning the ignition key again. Has anybody any ideas what the problem may be.

Thanks in advance for your help

Ian

E85/86s can suffer from duff ignition switches which may be your problem.

There are a few threads about it, one here:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2093701&hilit=ignition+switch#p2093701

Sounds to me like you're going down the right fault finding route.
Hope you get it sorted.

Ordered the part, hasn't arrived yet, but I squirted WD40 down the ignition barrel using the tube to get it in as deep as possible and at the moment it's starts 1st time, gotta love WD40 :D :D

Well it looks like you've found the problem!

Hopefully it will keep going until you get the new part.
