2007 E85 automatic manual shift mode not working after initial roll out

New to me 2007 3.0i roadster with automatic and paddle shifters. After start up,...I can select gears manually with either the center console mounted gear selector by moving it to the left,...or by clicking on one of the paddle shifters. However, after about 30-60 seconds,...I can no longer manually select any gears up or down with either the console mounted gear selector or the paddle shifters. The car does shift normally through all the gears automatically,.....just no manual gear selection available.
Is this a common issue?

Update: the manual shift mode using steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and the center console mounted gear. Selector lever began working as it should once I completed the rebuild of the cooling system (curiously).
