2006 z4 si....wont go to redline? Is it supposed to?

Hello, I just bought a 2006 si manual. I haven't had the chance to drive another besides this one and the closest bmw dealer ship is 450 miles away. My question is....in 1st gear the car will seem perfect up to 6200rpm and then just feels like I let off to half throttle and will barely build rpms. it doesn't cut out or buck or anything like that...just suddenly slowly gains rpms. then 2nd does the same thing. feels strong all the way until I get closer to 7000. I made 100% positive I am not hitting 7000rpm or the red. The power stops well before. is this normal or can you guys go to redline in all your gears? I wish there was another z4 close to me! thanks

I don't want to hit the limiter. Its just that all the manual cars I have driven I shift right at the redline and this car doesn't go there. just curious if that is a problem or is the car functioning properly. that's all. I just bought it and want to make sure there are no problems. So either I will know this is normal and to just shift at 6200rpm or it is supposed to go to 7000rpm easily and I then have a problem. thanks

also I should note that I have not fully tried to get to the redline. I just shifted after I felt the car let up. It pulls strong till 6200 and then lets up quite a bit so I just shifted there. So question is....do your si's pull even and hard all the way to 7000? thanks!!!

My si will go to the limiter ... Hit it by accident once whilst driving like a tool, so it will get there. But must admit the rare times I have revved it like that it does feel pretty uneventful towards the end of the range, unlike previous cars I've been in which sound and feel like they're going to internally digest themselves.

mine isn't hitting a rev limiter like im used to. in other cars it cuts the fuel and the motor kicks in and out and surges. this isn't like that. the car just pulls strong and all the sudden at 6200rpm it just kinda gives up and the rpms kind of float there. but once I shift, the power is there right away and pulls strong until 62-6500 and then the floating happens again.

Why do you do that? For most cars, peak torque occurs somewhere before red line and that's the optimum shift point.

I think the peak power is something like 6.2k rpm... So thats the optimum shift point....

But def goes to the red... No real need for it though.

Silly question but is the car properly warm first?

my 2.5 si will hit the limiter - it dosent race up there and BANG off it like some sports cars do - it slows down after 6k ish but will continue to climb if you let it - -mine makes a glorious noise at that level, but there is nothing to be gained acceleration wise for holding on
