Would some kind people help me out, I have bridge stone 18" run flats on the front and non run flats on the rear. The car is fine until it hits a bad patch of road or the lorry tracks on the motorway. I am thinking its the run flats but would it be the combination of non and RFTs? Need to sort it quickly as its the only thing that is putting me off keeping this special motor. Any help would be gratefully received, my father has a 320d with 17" RfTs and he is thinking of changing to all non run flats, but would that mean declaring to the insurance as well. Richard

My last car, an e92 3 series had RFT's on when I bought it.

The front wore very unevenly then cracked badly. In spite of lots of people telling me I should't put normal tyres on the front with RFT's on the back or the other way round, I did it anyway.

Well just changing the fronts improved the ride no end and if the rears had a good 10k left in them so I ran the car with a mix and match for a couple of months before changing the others. Tyres are expensive and I could't justify throwing good tyres in the bin.

It's just worth baring in mind that with unmatched tyres front and rear you are altering the front/rear grip balance a little. Nothing to worry about when you're not driving on the limit and the roads are dry but to be honest most of us don't get too close to the cars limits anyway.

But don't take my word for it, wait for the consensus and make up your own mind. I'm interested to see what others think too...

Plucked up the courage and money to change all corners to Bridgestone non run flats. What a difference, car handles completely differently and is now even more of a pleasure to drive. Why do BMW insist in making the drivers car such a bag of rubbish using these things.

Glad you took the plunge and changed- enjoy the difference! why do BMW do it?- thats what every Z owner who has changed the old RFT's wants to know!

There's little argument that Bridgestone RFTs are terrible. Lot's of people have gone non-RFT and never looked back. If you're reluctant to go that route, some newer design RFTs have gotten good reviews. Simply changing brands may be all you need. Just a thought, as I have non-RFTs, so I have no first hand experience, just something I heard.
