If you don't wanna buy it I would t bother yourself about it
Wow - that's really in the spirit of the forum, isn't it!

I have even sent a member who enquired a video walk round of the car.

if anyone interested in the car had questions please just ask... I'm happy to answer any here or in private.

That was me...

Don't give the guy a hard time, car looks really nice externally, except for the ding above the door handle. PDR might work on it??. Interior looks good to me. Service history is an issue but like the OP said it has been serviced but there is no record of it but he will put you in touch with the guy who has cared for it. if anyone wants to go see it I suggest you do. If I wasn't after a coupe I would definitely go see it.

Is the spirit of the forum suggesting that someone trying to sell a vehicle for genuine reason is "dodgy". If so you would certainly tick that box.
I don't know where you get the word "dodgy" from - it's not a word that I've ever used.

However, just to be straight:
  1. You are an unknown quantity on this forum. You joined solely to sell a car, wthout having made any other contribution to the forum.
  2. You do not own the car that is being sold.
  3. The service history is unknown, and can only be ascertained by talking to a local garage. There's no suggestion that these are BMW Main Dealers (or even a BMW specialist independent). The level of servicing - and, in particular, the grade of oil used - is paramount when dealing with an M-Power engine like the S54.
  4. Damage to left hand side - may be relatively minor, but could reflect a bigger issue?
  5. We are told that a "trader" had purchased the car for £9.5k on eBay, but on inspecting the car declined to complete the transaction. Furthermore they left feedback saying "this guy is a fraud and car dodgy". Why?
  6. The price has changed from £9.5k to £12k.

As I hope you can appreciate, each of the above points ring "alarm bells". While the older hands on here would understand their significance and would know how to address each of them, there are plenty of prospective owners who read this forum and who may not realise what level of due diligence they need to do to ascertain whether a car is worth buying, especially when an (apparently) under-priced car is advertised.

1. I am not in any way shape or form a BMW owner.... I joined purely to list the car .... wish I hadn't.

Myself and my wife are trying to sell the car for a family friend who is serious ill and will not be able to drive again.

2 as above... I don't own the car.... guilty

3. The service history is unknown because the gentleman is in hospital and is not physically in a state he can help us locate them. However it was bought from BMW and I'm happy to put people in touch with the garage.... not sure what more I can do.

4. I don't know what else I can do.... it has some damage to left side.... people can see this before they buy of course as many pics as required before they travel.

5 if you check my eBay listing it said no traders... the guy who came was a trader and wasted 3 hours negotiating. He was unhappy at the lack of full service history which he interpreted the ad to read. I reworded this on the relisting

6 being bombarded with dealers I realised I had wholly undervalued the car and was inviting hassle... so took advice to increase the price to try to do the best for our friends

Are you in the market for a car or just to cause someone grief? If the latter than congrats job done.

To clarify we are selling the car for a friend who is seriously ill..., I have no gain to make here.... more than happy for anyone genuinely interested to speak to his wife to validate.. but I don't want her time wasting at this time.... that's the whole point of me trying to sell it for them.

It is sold without a full service history, but has been serviced.... that's as much as I can say but the BMW garage who they bought it from are also available to contact

There is some damage on left side... not what I would call major but happy to share pics with anyone interested.

Would appreciate if a mod could delete this thread
so I don't have to waste what little time I have answering nasty comments.

As a Z4 community, I would be very disappointed if this thread was to be deleted, as it acts as useful information to all the members and prospective members.

I have not seen any "nasty" comments, merely factual ones (which, to be fair, you have responded to).

I would hope that any prospective buyers would see the lack of service records and left side damage reflected in the price.

I also would hope they would see comments by yourself as those from someone just looking to cause trouble and not genuine questions from someone genuinely interested in the car.

But as mentioned above good job... hope you feel really great about yourself.

I'm not interested in buying your car - I already have a Z4M - but if I were, then your attitude would certainly put me off.

And if comments by myself (and other on here) prevent a single prospective owner from buying a single dodgy car, or pointing out the things that they need to check carefully, then I feel bloody fantastic about myself!

Z4 Forum is a community of enthusiasts - not a cheap alternative to eBay/AutoTrader/PistonHeads.

David, it has been a long-standing matter for debate on this site as to whether or not we should allow comments on for-sale posts.

The general consensus is that comments are useful. In this case, many unanswered questions have now been responded to by you, and if someone reading this ad is interested in the car, then most if not all of the information is available to them.

We can delete it if you like, but you'll probably find that the comments (even ones you have perceived as being unhelpful) will probably increase your chances of selling the car on here.

Thanks for that.

I think I would prefer just to have the thread deleted if that is ok....I feel like I have to constantly answer some very unfair questions (and accusations), and next week I am simply not going to have time to defend myself.

If you could remove it would be appreciated.

You've weathered the storm now David why not let it ride
ZMs can take a while to shift even with faultless provenance & condition so having it seen in a dedicated forum is a positive
i Jmo but i would offer up decent pics of all areas in & out with honest description & current ask price clear in post title , even if that means a new thread
Good luck

We can delete the thread, but not in order to create a new thread... if it's deleted then that's the end of the story.

Surely if someone is genuinely interested (With damage and history clearly been stated) then they would just go and see it and negotiate once at the car.

Its not a car for someone that wants "pristine" history
Its not a car for anyone that wants "immaculate" bodywork.

The original price reflected this...

Everyone getting sand in their fanny when they dont have the remotest intention of buying is laughable...

I'm delighted to report the car has been sold.... the new owner is an absolute car nut, who understands the flaws in lack of paperwork, but having inspected and driven the vehicle...thankfully.....snapped our hand off.

All the others who have contacted me in private with support...thank you. The sale is a pressure off the minds of a lovely family who already have so much to deal with.

David.
