2006 2.5 V 2003/4/5 3.0 Real world difference?

Still working on finding a 3 litre Z4 for the summer and seen a few I'm interested in. Problem is I've also seen a couple of 2006 2.5i SE cars and wondered if there is any real world difference between them and the engine I'd initially looked at, the 3.0? Obviously as stated I'm comparing these 06 2.5's with 2003/4/5 3 litre cars. Will I notice a big difference in performance, smoothness etc? I owned an E 46 330i m-sport a few years ago and I'm assuming the 3 litre Z4 has the same engine?

can of worms...

remember though that there were two post facelift N52 2.5's

2.5i = about 170bhp
2.5si = about 220bhp

preface lift 3.0 = 231bhp using M54 engine, same as E46 330i
post facelift 3.0si = about 265bhp

Thanks Gannet, so I take it from that, the 2.5si wont be too dissimilar to a prefacelift 3.0. Good to know thanks.

Why a can of worms though?

I haven't driven anything other than my car with the prefacelift 3.0 which is plenty quick enough for me.

I doubt you would notice much of a difference between pre 3.0 and 2.5si post...

can of worms because everyone's real world is different and everyone has different requirements :D

BHP doesnt tell the full tale.

The torque amounts and delivery are quite different on the units. The 3.0i is a more "torquey" unit that makes easier progress.

Yes I appreciate that, this is the main reason why having had an e46 330i sport I wanted to go with the same engine again.

Still looking if anyone is interested in selling a silver or grey 3 litre 2003-05 black leather, as loaded as possible.

i drove a facelift 2.5i before i bought my 3.0si.

imo the 3.0 feels much faster due to the torque... but in the real world doesnt make much difference.

The pre facelift 2.5 is a 5 sp while a 3.0 and all facelifts would be a 6sp.

the advantage of getting a 3.0 would be the extra standard things you get.. electric memory seats.. dimming mirror etc.
