2004 Z4 no sound from radio?

Hello all!

The battery recently died in my Z4 and once I got it running again, I noticed that there is no sound coming from the radio or CD-player. Everything seems to work fine (i.e. I can change tracks on the CD and switch stations) but there is just no sound coming from the speakers. I checked the amplifier in the trunk and the connections seemed alright and nothing seemed fried.

Is there a way to reset the radio or is my only option to take it to the dealer?

Thanks!!!

Hi tka679,

Odd predicament. The battery going flat can do odd things.

Not sure where the power comes from for that amp, possibly not on a feed from the head unit supply. Check the fuse from that separately. May be worth check the DSP settings on the head unit to see if they can be changed - I would assume that it need to send the info to the amp, usually with this car if something is broken / not there the function to change it becomes unavailable.

Only other thing I always think of when the battery has gone, has the car gone into transit mode? Not sure if this even affects the stereo though. The tell take is whether the air con is working properly - if not this may be the cause.

Now, about your introduction (with pictures!) in the newbie section...

Thanks for your response!

The air conditioning works perfectly so it hasn't gone into transit mode. I checked fuses 47 and 50 (radio) and they are fine. I can change the settings on the DSP but I'm not sure if they work  .

I hope the amp hasn't gone bad...it would be an odd coincidence indeed.

I guess I'll head on over to the newbie section now... :D

Dear tka679

Late to answer but:
Had exactly the same problem for the same reason (flat battery).
Pulled all fuses to check them (47–50) and like magic it began working again.
Not much help I’m afraid.

Recently, I have had 2 incidents where I get in the car in the morning and my speakers aren't working. They worked just fine the day before and then they don't. The radio comes on. I plugged my cell phone into the aux unit and still no sound. So, here is the kicker, I drive for about 30 minutes and turn off the car for about 5 minutes. When I turn it back on, I got the speakers back. Ok, so I did try to turn off the car right away before driving away and no luck with them turning back on. I wish they would just stay off so I could take it to the dealer under warranty and say fix it! Because you know what they will say "Sorry, we can't replicate the problem" so therefore, no problem.
Reminds me of the time I took my car in for an intermittent head light problem. One would go on and off. Of course, it didn't happen for them and I got the "saying". Drove away and within 5 minutes, it went out. Swung a U-turn and when i got back, i asked "how many headlights do I have on". They fixed it correctly that time.
Ok, so much for my soap box rant. :tumbleweed:
