2004 2.5i alarm question

My wife just picked up her "new" 2004 z4--The security light under the mirror never flashes--we are not even sure if this car has a security system--without going back to the dealer (not a bmw dealer) how can we find out--some sites say it was standard on 2004s--also the panic button on the key remote doesnt work--fuse was checked--we cant open the power top from the remote either--thanks for any help--
 
lock the car with the roof down and then reach in, if you have an alarm it will go off, simple as that. :D
