2003 Z4 E85 Z4 3.0i Stereo Question

Hi there,

I'm planning to look at a 3.0i 2003 Z4 next weekend, however after some reading on this site I was after some clarification regarding the Headunit.

I want to use my Double Din Pioneer SPH-DA120 but I'm a little unsure on the connector / wiring etc. I've seen some say that 3.0 models had the 10 speaker system?; and that the 10 speaker system is hard work to change the HU - is that correct? Someone must have done it by now - any guides or relevant threads?

Edit: Is there any where I can check? I've found other links from this forum to check vin number and spec etc etc but wondered if there was anything that might help me gauge what system would be in the vehicle. I don't want to look like an idiot trying to count speakers when looking at it haha

If memory serves i think there are three variations. The basic has 6 speakers (mine) then 8 and then 10 which includes the amp. I think the head unit is the same but i may be wrong.
I havent seen a double din i stall thats made me think it suits the car. ever thought of a media bridge? Real easy to instal and gives bluetooth phone and music streaming no cutting or replacing panels required. Also Mack has one for sale on this site. Just another option

In the boot lift the floor panel to see the battery, is there a amp mounted in there as well, if no amp you have 6 speakers, if yes you have 10 speakers, if you have 10 you may have a amp only system, or you may have the caver dsp system , the carver is difficult to upgrade,
If you have the 6 or 10 amp only , they are straight forward to swap wiring wise, you would need a BMW quad lock to ISO loom adaptor, there a 2 pin types round or square so you need to check,

The creative part is the fascia adaptor for double Din , non off the shelf , there was a post from someone this weekend that might be able to 3d print this

Thanks for the info ... it was me that mentioned about 3D printing the double din fascia as it happens lol
