Hi, it's my first time here.

I have 03' Z4 with digital DSP system.

I want to change my head unit to Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD and add a 10' sub in the trunk

I asked some of the installers and they said,

1) there is no way of changing the head unit..
2) you would have to replace both head unit and the OEM amp since they go together and it will cost you $1800.

Here is what I want to ask you guys..

Do you really have to replace the amp too?
are there any ways to replace the head unit?

If you replace the amp, any ideas on connecting the wires to a new amp?

I am very happy with my car except the sound quality.

I want BASS..^^

thx guys!!

I believe #2 is correct.

A 10' sub is kinda large, try an Escalade.

Bass is nice, just none of that thump thump s**t that rattles my windows.

it is not possible to connect an aftermarket headunit to the 'digital' OEM amp.

(this because the audiosettings are sent to the amp via the canbus system).

A subwoofer in the trunk will have limited impact due to the firewall between trunk and cabin.

My advise: throw out the oem amp and headunit, replace headunit and add a four channel amp. You can reuse the woofers behind the seats if you put them in parallel (2x 10 ohms = 5 ohms) and bridge the amp. Use the 2 remaining channels for a decent two or three way system for the front stage.
