2003. E85 Nav display retrofit

So gents, I have an regular Z4 without Nav display:

Well, I am considering, so my question is, what is the easiest way?

I am really not comfortable to cut the dash, is it possible to obtain a dash from Z4 with nav display and put it on mine?

The problem is that I don't have a central flip up screen and that hole?

So my question was, drilling or replacing the whole dash?
 
I'd try cutting your dash. The ones with Sat Nav will cost more because they are rare, plus the cutting/modifying slightly may be needed.

You could buy a cheap dash just to experiment on? (i.e. to learn from your mistakes) then you can install in your car with more piece of mind!
 
Thanks for the advice, that's smart, find a cheap dash just to test how it will be. I will try to find something like that. Cheers!
 
personally dont bother with the factory sat nav as its so out of date, best get aftermarket headunit like a joying one or go for a 10.25" android screen

Wow that’s expensive, I paid far less for mine
 
Now as I am thinking, larger display there, that can't fold down, does it disturb the field of view? Is it too big there?
 
:o :o Why start cutting holes in a nice clean looking dash its the reason i looked for a car with no Sat Nav it ruins the look of the origonal dash can you not just by a plug in sat nav ?
 
Honestly that new nav (which alone looks good) doesn't fit the style of E85 in my opinion.
But, if you find it useful then why not. Good luck!
 
You have a point there gents, I am just researching options. In my opinion, a roadster needs to have a steering wheel, manual gearbox and that's it. I had a Lotus Elise, so I know what is a roadster without any equipment.

Mainly I am using Z4 for road trips, and I would like to have good navigation, but as I think, I will handle this with a good stand for a phone, that can be removed. I even don't listen to music that much on a stereo when I drive, only music is our beautiful 6 cylinder engine. :)

I tend to agree with the others. For mine, I have a small magnetic mount that clips onto the dash vents that my phone mounts onto for sat nav. It clips on and off and is only 1 inch or so side, so stored in glovebox when not in use. Then use google maps, no updates etc to worry about and has the live traffic.
