2003/2004 Z4 stereo

Hi all,

I have a uk 53 plate 2.5l z4. The car has:

2 tweeters in the mirror triangles
2 speakers in the door
2 behind the seats
2 in the footwells
cd changer
business cd headunit

What stereo system is this? Do I have an amp and where would it be? The information I have read from ship killer etc seems to be different to my car.

You should have an amp

It's in the battery well under the false floor in the boot,

It's black, infront of the battery

You have the basic system with only 6 speakers, 2 of those are just dummy grills:

Beloew is from the FAQ section.

There are 3 Audio options in the Z4. Basic, Hifi and DSP (Carver/Logic7). Basic has 6 speakers & no amp (with 8 visible grills), Hifi has 10 speakers with an optical amp, and DSP is the Carver system with 10 speakers, optical amp and DSP settings you can change. If you have cubby boxes behind the seats you have basic, if you have DSP settings you have the DSP, anytihng else you have the Hifi option. Anything other than the Basic Hifi is incredibly difficult to upgrade. Carver was the original Launch top Hifi named after the company that designed the Speakers, after 2007 it became the Logic7 system, all have Phillips Speakers.

It does indeed have cubby holes.
The stereo is ok at the moment but I can hear a speaker blowing i think. I'm not big in to base or anything in particular and just want quality. You mention upgrading, what are sensible upgrades to make?
