2 year problem finally fixed!

Back in 2012 the car started to idle erratically when started in the morning! This only happened though when the breaks where applied! Over the years I’ve had around 5 garages take a look and diagnose several things and some even said they didn’t know what it was and to wait till it got worse! I’ve spent hours trailing the internet and asking the extremely helpful and friendly people on here! Last week alone I paid £120 to have some vacuum pipes replaced and I was told this was causing it. Since the start of this year so far I have spent almost £600 on repairs and most of the time things come back unfixed! Last week I went on Amazon and paid £6.99 for a Bluetooth OBDII reader, plugged it in the car and ran a free app on my phone to be told that there was low voltage from the MAF. £194 later and a new MAF installed by me and the problem has gone. No more sat at the traffic lights with the car revving at 1100rpm!
However this does raise the question as to whether all garages are just money sapping twats who no longer wish to fix things by good old investigation work! But would rather you just give them your money for apparently nothing!

Rant over lol

That is pretty poor. So hard to find a garage you can trust.

Great that you fixed the problem thou.!!

You should make up some business cards

Slightly off topic but do you have a link for the reader you brought.? Sounds like a bargain piece of kit for the tool box

What a long and expensive journey you have had, I am just glad you finally got it sorted in the end

Great result Nova.

I've had similar issues with my Astra. Garages unable to diagnose a fault. I found out a "pedal test" from the Owner's Club which brings up any stored faults on the dash.

Managed to translate these codes with the help of that forum and replaced a couple of sensors to fix the fault. When I took it to a number of Vauxhall garages / specialists none of them had heard of this "pedal test" and couldn't diagnose the issue.

The internet really is an amazing resource.

Its been horrible mate! wished i just cant understand how a £6.99 piece of kit can pick up something that all these garages must have missed! i even spent hundreds at a BMW Specialist and still they didnt know!

Before the Z i owned a 1.8 Corsa SRi and the pedal test came in handy more than once!

Sounds like you've been through (and spent) quite a bit, must be satisfying to finally have it sorted.

I'll be honest when I saw the thread title I was expecting...
