One of the local dealers has an M235i demo arriving next week and has promised me a "spin"
Does this have the same engine found in the 35iS?

I don't believe it does. I think it's the N55 and will be a twin scroll single turbo as opposed to a twin turbo amongst other slight differences

I had a look at the 235i last month. I don't think it's as powerful as the 3.5is

Supposedly the same with the 7 speed or 0.2 seconds slower in a manual better mpg and emission on the 235i if you want to save the planet a little more. And it's 35is not 3.5is :P

I have been invited to my local dealer for a look when it launches as it seems a great package & a little more easy on the eyes at the front when compared to the M135i but its rear is a little suspect I think.

I do really like the idea of the M235i very much but it isn't as light as I was hoping because I look at the 1 series as being a small & light car but in reality its not.

I'd be interested to see what the 2 is like. I had the E88 in the 135 before the 120 and although they were great you notice a difference in ride and just over all feel of the car when I get into the E89. Even with 19inch wheels and run flats the ride is much nicer than the E88.

Now if they bring a M2 I wonder if this will be limited like the 1M coupe and if it will have any influence over the price of them as currently they are still costing the same as new, a few can be had for a few k less. Plus a nice wide body on the 2 would look great.

I agree & the thought of a M2 is really mouth watering & it is incredible how the 1M has held its value.

I now wish I hadn't been so pig headed and bought one. I however didn't want it in white, black or Orange and even offering to pay more money wouldn't persuade them to let me have it in blue

I really wanted one when I went to buy my old M3 but they were £5k out of my budget at the time as I had a budget of £30k & my fave car colour is blue too & most of my cars over all the years have been blue but my M3 was white so I suppose I could have gone with a white 1M, from a financial stand point a 1M would have been a winner that's for sure but I have always been good at throwing money away on cars!

The M235i and M135i both have the N55HP version of the engine which as well as the twin scroll turbo has a forged crank, cast pistons along with a few other uprated oily bits to handle more power. The 435i etc has the N55 normal version with 305 (I think) as opposed to the 320hp in the M performance cars. It's not a huge difference but the engine has been built for more power which would suggest it's going to be in the M2 (I have seen a screen grab of a patent request via BMW for that name) with some more horses.

I can't imagine the car with more horses. The M135i is pretty much too powerful for the chassis. An M with much beefier running gear could be something else.
