My mate also has a Z4, bought it jsut after I got mine. Anyway he has 2 questions he wants me to ask on here (he doesnt use the web much).

1) Where can he get a iPOD lead for his 53 3.0 Z4 with Factory Satnav (but basic/business HU), anyone got a part number and will it intereact with his screen somehow?

2) He says he is having a problem with his satnav, keeps losing the GPS signal, I assume new transmitter required? Any info on this problem and what needs doing?

Thanks

Do a search on both questions as they have come up recently and will answer everything you need to know and more :)

Not as simple as just buying a cable. Assuming he doesn't have an AUX in socket then he needs an iPod interface for that such as the Dice or Intravee. The Intravee would show information on the screen - not sure about the Dice?

Or he can just get an AUX retrofit kit but it wouldn't provide any interraction with the screen.

I don't think such a thing exists, at least direct from BMW. 53 was before they started including aux-input so you would need to use IceLink or one of the other iPod solutions. (http://www.dension.com/compatibilityDatabase.php?compatibilityID=1964). More details in the howto forum.

Been a few threads with similar problems recently. Possible it's a bad connection or a damaged cable.

That would suggest the antenna is connected to the back of the head-unit so you could at least make sure it's properly seated and clean.

The GPS antenna is connected to the DVD drive and the cable runs throught the transmission tunnel and the GPS sensor is attached to a bar just under the dashboard behind the instrument panel.
