Hi all, have a question for you z4 experts... I recently bought a 2.5 automatic z4, dec 2004 first reg. I use it as a city car, I must say just start-stop in the the traffic. I ran about 500 miles since when i got the car and i'm averaging 14mpg (10 miles per hour average speed). Not that really care, i knew in advance that my city toy wasn't cheap to maintain, but it sounds too me a bit exaggerated... Is this fuel consumption normal in your opinion? thanks in advance

Stop start traffic in a 2.5 auto yep sounds about right to me.

Not normal. I run a 2.5i se as a daily and my commute is all town stop start, I average 24.5 mpg , are you running with the sport button turned on all the time, what is the cars tick over at. it may need a remap.
Edit.. I agree there will be a difference between auto and manual but not to that extent surely.

Nosa thanks, actually your average is impressive, my old 320d automatic was averaging 25 mpg with the same start-stop driving. My drive is hi fuel consumption, i'm aware of it, 2 miles per single "trip" (i.e hove-gym, home-grocery store, home-bar) but still i agree my car is drinking too much. I ran 2500 miles per year with this car, so also at this consumption levels, it won t make me much difference @ the end of he year... but still....

I notice from your profile that you are in Italy, it's been a while since I've been there so can't remember what grades of fuel you get there. In the UK our standard fuel is 95ron/octane, I'm currently in the US and their premium grade is only 93ron/octane.
If you are using a lower grade fuel that could possibly account for some of the difference.
I very rarely do city driving, my idea of being stuck in traffic these days is when there are more than 2 cars in front of me. Nearly all my trips tend to be longer ones and depending on the weight of my right foot I can get upto 40mpg, but the OBC usually indicates about 35 with a mixed bag of everything I do.

This is OT and pendantic, but to nip misinformation in the bud: US octane is measured as an average of mon and ron methods, which results in an octane rating 4 or 5 pts below ron method alone. So US 93 = Eur 97-98.RichardG said:
