2.2i Performance upgrade

Hi all, being brand new to Z4's I wanted to ask if there is a way to increase the performance of my '04 2.2i.

Every time that thread gets re-posted I fall in love with that car a little more :oops:
 
I wasn't actually meaning fitting a super charger :rofl:
Just want to know of easier mods to give a better performancs, if there are any...
 
Very few mods will give you extra power without forced induction :(

OEM induction and exhaust are good, upgrading will see little or no performance gains...

With a good remap, good intake and good exhaust you MIGHT see about 15-25hp... Don't believe any who say that a remap alone will give you up to 30hp more.
 
On a smaller engine I car I find the biggest gain can be made from reducing unsprung weight..... So changing to some ultra light weight 16/17" wheels will make a whole world of difference.

When I had my old civic type r removing 5kg from each wheel felt like I gave it an extra 50 ponies !!
 
As a general rule BMW do a pretty good job of getting the performance out of their cars so you can spend a lot chasing little gain.

You can play with smaller wheels, recaps, etc. but don't expect to realise much

Not the the answer but with prices so low you do better to just trade to the next engine up. A supercharger bolted on would take the cost to more than just buying a 3.0 or even close to an ///M. Of course factors might be age, insurance, mpg, etc.

Agree 100%. In fact I did post an immediate reply "buy a 3.0l" to whiteknight's first post, but thought it a bit crass at the time and immediately deleted it!

I do think it holds good - there's not a great difference in price or running costs between the 2.2 and the 3.0, and I bet the insurance would be more for a modified 2.2 than a standard 3.0 anyway.
 
Ok, Thank you for the informative responses. Think I shall leave well enough alone, and if I find I truly want more power will consider upgrading in the future to a '3'

Awesome bike indeed! After that i can see how a 2.2i, or any Z4 for that matter, can feel slow! :thumbsup:
