2.2 using oil

Hey guys, I resently bought my Z4 it's a 2.2 and has around 109k on the clock, after around 300 miles I'm finding the amber oil light flashing up when I turn the ignition off. I check the oil and it is on the lower part of the dipstick there's no oil drips on the floor alto the catch tray is very large so my be some in there, is it common for them to eat oil ??? Any advise on what to look out for would be much appreciated. :?

Hi, it's not an engine that wears out quickly so if it's burning oil it's likely to be an ineffective ccv (engine breather valve) maybe including its pipes or even the dipstick tube! When it bungs up it leads to excess crankcase compression & oil burning problems
Regards

Did you check oil when you got car. If it wasnt up to max point then it could have covered a lot more miles before you needed to fill it. Just keep an eye on the dipstick before thinking there could be a more fundamental problem.

The oil was on the bottom of the dipstick when I bought it, so I topped it up. Sins then it's dropped twice, at around 300- 500 miles worth of driving. I bought and fitted (myself  ) a new ccv and all pipes today as they dont cost a lot. Hopefully it will solve the problem

Did you remove the dipstick tube to check it's not blocked? From memory the oil returns to the sump through this pipe & they can gum up badly.

Yeah I removed the dipstick and cleaned through tbh it was quite clean anyway all the other pipes were replaced just to be sure, there was a little bit of gunk in the pipes. so fingers crossed it will sort it out.
Thanks for the advice
